History Made with First Successful Energy Exchange across Emera’s Maritime Link

Emera set to install North America’s longest submarine electricity cables
The first of North America’s two longest submarine electricity cables has arrived in Atlantic Canada onboard the cable laying vessel the Skagerrak. Integral to Emera’s Maritime Link Project, these cables each measure 170 km and weigh 5,500 tonnes – combined, the two cables weigh more than the Eiffel Tower.

HDD boreholes complete - Maritime Link Project ready for subsea cable install in 2017
On Wednesday, August 17, the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) team completed the final borehole at Point Aconi, NS, marking a significant milestone for the Maritime Link Project. With the completion of the boreholes at Cape Breton and at Cape Ray, these cable landing sites are ready for installation of two subsea cables across the Cabot Strait by mid-2017.

NSPML Replaces Transmission Line Contractor for Maritime Link Project
NSP Maritime Link Inc. (NSPML), a subsidiary of Emera Inc. (TSX: EMA), today announced a new transmission line contractor for the Maritime Link Project. The original contractor, Abengoa S.A., has been under ongoing global creditor protection proceedings that have hampered the company’s ability to perform its work.

ABB Canada Awarded Converter Station Contract
NSPML has awarded ABB with the contract to design and supply its HVDC Light Voltage Source Conversion (VSC) technology. The contract includes a full VSC bipolar configuration to further improve system availability as well as two converter stations for the ±200 kilovolt (kV) HVDC link. ABB will also supply two 230 kV alternating current (AC) substations in Newfoundland, one 345 kV AC substation in Nova Scotia and two cable transition stations. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2017.

Maritime Link Financing Trust Completes $1.3 Billion Bond Financing
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - Emera Incorporated ("Emera") announces today that the Maritime Link Financing Trust (the “Issuer”) has completed its offering of $1,300,000,000 aggregate principal amount of 3.50% bonds, designated as Series A, due December 1, 2052 (the “Bonds”), at a price of $999.57 per $1,000 principal amount of Bonds for aggregate gross proceeds to the Issuer of approximately $1.3 billion (the “Offering”).
