St. John’s, NL – Emera Newfoundland & Labrador has officially launched a new web-based jobs portal: www.MaritimeLinkJobs.com to provide job seekers with information about opportunities and to apply for work on the Maritime Link Project. The new portal allows job seekers to easily apply for potential work, while providing all contractors and unions involved with the Project with a list of qualified people to fill positions as required. 

 

With an “Apply Now” button prominently displayed throughout the website, users will be prompted to fill out several information fields and upload their resume. Once registered, users can also return to their profile and make updates as necessary.  

 

“The new MaritimeLinkJobs.com site provides greater accessibility for those applying for work on the Project,” says Rick Janega, President and CEO, Emera Newfoundland & Labrador. “This is an exciting Project, creating more than 600 jobs across both provinces during the peak of the Project and we want the best people to ensure that our contractors have the qualified people they need to get the work completed in a safe and cost effective way.”

 

During construction, the Maritime Link Project is expected to create an average of 300 jobs each year, peaking at 600 jobs. As part of the Project, ENL has policies and practices in place to ensure equal opportunity for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and Nova Scotians as well as support the creation of employment opportunities for women, Aboriginal Peoples, individuals with disabilities and visible minorities. 

 

For the Maritime Link Project, hiring for all skilled and unskilled positions will be the responsibility of the contractors in partnership with the associated union(s) in Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. Each union will be coordinating with contractors on hiring. While Emera Newfoundland & Labrador will manage the Project through its Project team, the hiring of workers for construction will be completed by contractors on the Project. The most effective way for people to apply for work on the Project is through MaritimeLinkJobs.com.

 

To ensure potential job candidates are aware of the jobs application process, ENL will promote MaritimeLinkJobs.com by launching an awareness campaign. This campaign will help drive job seekers interested in the Maritime Link Project to the website. The goal is to build a database to assist contractors in accessing the qualified local workers needed.

 

In November 2014 ENL along with the governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia signed an Industrial and Employment Benefits Agreement. The agreement outlines hiring protocols for the Project, which gives priority to qualified Nova Scotians and Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans equally and identified requirements for the Project’s Diversity Plan.
