Environmental Protection Plans
Environmental protection planning was the primary mechanism for implementing mitigation measures for all maintenance activities on the Maritime Link system. These practices were determined through the EA process and were required by applicable agencies through the permitting process.
ENL developed Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) minimum requirements that described responsibilities, expectations and methods for environmental protection associated with Maritime Link maintenance activities. These indicate the minimum environmental measures ENL requires from all consultants and contractors working on the Maritime Link, from which they develop an activity-specific contractor EPP for their scope of work. Contractors were responsible for providing all specifics of environmental protection to their scope of work and geographic region and for installing, maintaining and monitoring control measures in place for the length of their contract. ENL will maintain oversight of contractors and consultants to ensure that all aspects of the EPP are implemented as required.
